About the Book

Justin Callahan has one day a week that he gets to have his grandfather all to himself. They both love baseball and Lydia’s Donut Stop. Justin also loves listening to Grampop’s stories about the Brooklyn Dodgers and two of its famous star players, Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese. Then, in third grade, a new, shy boy is placed in Justin’s class. No one in the third grade pays much attention to the new boy. Can a story from the past reach into the present world at The Cherry Street Elementary School? Will his grandfather’s stories make a difference in the choice Justin makes at school when some bullies go too far?

Ginny Rowe has taught in an elementary school for thirty years. She lives in New York City. She enjoys writing children’s songs for class projects and performances. This is her first children’s book.
