About the Book

These “snippets” from Gordon Strayer’s memory provide glimpses of his life from birth and childhood on the Saskatchewan prairies through school, machinist apprenticeship, basic flight training and some months of Army Air Corps-assigned university study before WWII military service in Europe that included glider infantry training in France and Austria, a Bavarian summer in Hitler’s Berchtesgaden, and some months adminis- tering military justice. Postwar journalism study helped prepare him for a career in public relations at a Big Ten university, which yielded another range of adventures for his discerning eyes and sharp commentary.

About the Author

Even as a child, Gordon Strayer was a prodigious reader, fascinated by words. He also developed an early interest in writing, and can even recall a (long-lost, and never paid-for!) short story accepted for publication in a Canadian farm magazine when he was 12 or 13 years old. His Snippets: A Memoir is actually a collection of short memoirs drawn from various periods of Gordon’s life, beginning with early days on a Saskatchewan wheat farm and progressing through high school, WWII service, college and university years, and professional life in public relations.
