About the Book

The State of Texas has recently accepted Wild Flowers and Folklore to be placed for sale in three Capitol Gift Shops, including the Gift Shop inside the State Capitol Building and the Bob Bullock Museum Gift Shop.

"As a botanist, I am delighted when a writer undertakes a project such as this book. As Texans, we have a rich heritage of a varied flora, especially wildflowers. We all enjoy observing these bright colored flowers as we drive across our state. Gladys Hume has enabled us to go beyond these observations. She has blended folklore and technical information into a delightful presentation for young people.
"She has adequately researched the literature pertaining to this group of wildflowers. The inclusion of the blooming periods and the distributions will enable the readers to more easily find these beautiful flowers.
"Surely this approach will appeal to children as well as adults. My hope is that this book will cause more of us to pause and wonder about the natural world around us."

-Ben Pilcher, Ph.D.
Professor of Botany
