About the Book

Ken Beaver’s well-read “Viewpoints” columns began in 1975 and continued by local petition after his retirement in 1980 until 1991. Seeking change from their working world in their off hours, Ken and his wife Lib spent as much time out-of-doors and as close to nature as possible. Starting from as close to home as their backyard and going as far afield as Alaska, Mexico and the Galapagos, he covers their many excursions in snow, rain or good weather. Nature, family, history, photography and his personal philosophy are all examined.

About the Author

Ken Beaver, 1914-2000, devoted his entire working life to newspaper work. After high school in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, he attended Penn State to study Journalism. Beginning at a small daily in Westwood, New Jersey, he continued at the morning Patriot in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After stints in St. Louis, Missouri, and Port Angeles, Washington, he and his wife returned to 'their' valley where he continued his work at the Chambersburg, Public Opinion as Managing Editor and then Editorial Page Editor. Although he retired in 1980, his weekly "Viewpoints" column was carried until 1991. He was a lover of words with an extraordinary ability to see and to relate what he saw and felt. These are selection from his columns that ran from 1975 to 1979.
