About the Book

My stories have been written specially for children, and they reflect my love for Costa Rica, and a way of life unfamiliar to most American children. In my stories, I engage my own memories and experiences. In Costa Rica, where I was born and raised, I was surrounded by nature, animals and very special people. The collective beauty of those sorroundings influences and inspires me everyday. Writing has always been an important part of my life. I believe that through literature people are able to express their deepest feelings and thoughts. This small collection of short stories, displayed in both Spanish and English, is an attempt to share my childhood experiences with American children. I feel that sometimes English cannot fully express the feeling of the poetry of the Spanish language, so I encourage the reader to read the Spanish version aloud to the children.

About the Author

I grew up in Costa Rica and spent much of my childhood on my grandparent's mountain ranch breeding horses, riding, milking cows and observing the sugar cane operations. As a child I was an avid collector of rocks, spiders, leaves, coins and stamps. Nowadays, many years later, I am still a collector, but I am a collector of beautiful memories and dreams that inspire me everyday. My stories reflect this idyllic time and share with the reader my love for Costa Rica and a way of life unfamiliar to most American children. Ms. Vargas holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología, with a dual specialization in International Business and Marketing and Advertising. She currently divides her time between her adopted home in Santa Barbara, California and her homes in Costa Rica and the family's ranch "Estancia La Markonia" in Santa Fé, Argentina.
