About the Book

You can’t change a horse by believing it’s a mule. The horse remains a horse, while you become a fool.” What do you think of those people who try to redefine you based on their beliefs and their prejudices? In Shakespeare’s words, “No, I am that I am, and they that level at my abuses reckon up their own: I may be straight, though they themselves be bevel;” This is a story about how a young black technician worked his way through a thicket of doubters and institutional prejudice to the top of his game in the aerospace industry. Fred Woodson knew that he was the captain of his ship and the guardian of his own destiny, while others generated the waves and the currents he would have to navigate.

About the Author

The author, Ken Dillard spent more than four decades in the electronics industry as a technician, engineer and department manager. He writes poetry, essays and stories as a hobby or as therapy. He feels that putting your thoughts on paper is better than two aspirins for relief of what ails you even if you just tuck those papers away in a drawer and no one else ever sees them.
