About the Book

By writing down her childhood memories, Erica got a second chance at life. She began the process during an extreme personal crisis in the 1970s. After being assaulted and raped, there was nothing affirming in her “now,” but by re-visiting the past, she found a way to keep grounded and salvage her identity. In her words, “the seeds of memory planted in our early lives create landscapes that influence us forever. The experiences that mold us are in the past, not to be touched or broken. They may hibernate for years; yet, they’re there to be remembered.” And because she was brave enough to remember, Erica created these poignant, candid, and often funny stories about her life as an American child left to grow up in post-World War II England. Her stories weren’t written in sequence, many remain works in progress. There’s no telling the final shape Erica intended for them because she was killed in the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. She was a consultant at the Aon Corporation on the 102nd floor of Tower 2.
