About the Author
On January 31st, 1939, Walter Horcher was born to Karl and Mina Horcher in the small suburb of Frankfurt, Germany, Hausen, the last of 5 children. It was the dark time of Nazism and the Hitler regime. He was raised to make the most of everything possible, preserve things he had, and to make and produce the things he did not have. A young man of 18, he came to the United States to make his way in the world. He started out in Washington State, soon moving to California. He moved to Minnesota where he was married and began a family. Walt worked as a store designer for the JC Penny Company and then the Lancer Stores. Moving from the city to Cambridge, MN, he became self-employed as a general contractor. He still resides in Cambridge and has 3 children and 8 grandchildren. Born into Hell is a collection of the memories of his childhood during the war for all to visit that time in history from the eyes of an adult looking back.
