About the Book
The greatest human longing is to connect with something or someone who provides reciprocal love and affection. While it is true that no one really wants to be broke and miserable, most people want to be debt free and living an enjoyable life style; however, ultimately, even the rich and famous knows that when the spotlight goes out and the music stops, they want to go home to someone or something (a dog, a cat, a manikin, or a person) that will embrace them in a way that provides them some relief from the drudgery of the day. In addition, whatever they go home to has to provide a measure of healing, restoration, even validation with which they can make sense of living. It has to put back the worth in life that was bleached out in the crucible of daily routing. God, in his infinite wisdom, offered us a paradigm with which we can offer each other validation, communion rather than company and meaningful relationship. It is the concept of covenant. The principles of covenant are not restricted only to religious communities but are universal and applicable to any society or group organized to share space, time and resources together. Where ever people gather for fellowship, there is the need to apply covenant principles in order for that fellowship to have significant meaning in the participants’ lives. Living in Covenant, using a biblical frame of reference, addresses the need to find one’s place of connection among the herd, to develop meaningful relationship within that connection, and contend, together, with forces that attempts to dislocate people from their connections and send them wandering into meaningless living. It answers the question that Cain asked God, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Yes we are. That ‘s the only way life makes sense.
