About the Author

Dr. Haggard spent fifty years teaching in public schools and universities. Since her retirement, she has been serving as a volunteer in the Journey of Hope Program in Plano, Texas. This volunteer work includes serving as a Board Member, facilitator for children in kindergarten, grade one and grade two, and helping curriculum for elementary children in the program. Her other books include reading text and manuals for elementary and secondary students and teachers for Educational Bridge. She wrote Plans for Centering. This book includes plans for books to be used in schools, counseling, and grief support programs. Her latest book is “Ben’s Island Dream and Other Stories” published by Dorrance in 2008. These stories were written about grieving children for use with children who are coping with the death of someone they loved. Illustrations for REMEMBERING GRANDPA were done by Emily Boaz, the great-great niece of Dr. Haggard. Thirteen-year old Emily loves drawing, singing, reading and acting. Illustrations for the Appendix were done by children during sessions of Journey of Hope. They are used with the permission of that program.
