About the Book
Attempting to direct full attention to Calvin and focus upon his efforts to survive during his journey with Parkinson’s is the purpose of this manuscript. I trust some of the things we learned can be of help to others when faced with similar circumstances. He exemplified strength and courage throughout his experience of failing health. I am convinced there is a valid reason for every obstacle we encounter, and many lessons are not being learned because of lack of recognition and application of wisdom and knowledge available in circumstances that occur in life. Perhaps the past thirteen or so years have such a purpose for my life.
About the Author
I was born December 25, 1928, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I was the first born of five children into the family of Amanda Josephine Hensarling McCollough and Myles McCollough. My parents were very young and worked diligently to provide a home for us during the years of the Depression. We moved frequently and lived in Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi much of the time. My siblings were Marian Colleen McCollough, Lilbourne Harrie McCollough, Wilbourne Farries McCollough, and Kennieth Charles McCollough. Marian Colleen died at the age of four in 1934. The cause of her death was unknown. I finished high school and earned two years of college. Calvin C. Broadhead and I married January 1947. We have two daughters, Carmen Colleen Broadhead Malone and Deborah Amanda Broadhead Houston. We have three grandchildren, John Eric Malone and Lonnie Errol Malone and Mary Amanda Walley. Calvin was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1987 shortly after retirement. He died July 9, 2002. Both daughters and all three of my brothers are very attentive to me. They take special care for my needs. I now reside in Madison, Mississippi, with our oldest daughter.
