About the Book

Since shortly after his birth, Spencer Squirrel has anxiously awaited the time when he could explore the woods around his home. When his parents finally give him permission to leave the nest alone, he experiences lots of fun and excitement. But one event leaves him very frightened. What were those loud noises in the clearing? Would he ever get enough courage to go there again? This is a story of a squirrel's first day in the woods.

About the Author

Sherry H. Rodgers is a primary teacher in Bullitt County, Kentucky. She previously taught in Jefferson County, Kentucky and in Newton County, Georgia. While teaching in Cobb County, Georgia she was elected by her peers as the Belmont Hills Teacher of the Year, 2000. For Ms Rodgers, the best part of any school day is when she reads a story to her students. "I would love to think that somewhere in my career I have really connected my love of 'story' with a student or students, or that I began to instill an appreciation of literature, or ignited that wonderful flame of imagination."
