“Safety, while attending college, is everybody’s responsibility, especially the student’s. Parents and students should know that in many colleges, freshmen enter a very diverse student mixture. There are teenagers, grandparents, military veterans who have been in combat, former patients still on medication, individuals of different sexual orientations and individuals who are very devout in their religious faith and there are individuals who practice no faith at all.


About the Author

Clifford Eugene McLain was born in Ruston, Louisiana on November 13, 1943where he graduated with honors from Lincoln high school in 1961. McLain entered Southern University in 1961. After graduation in 1965, he began working for the Lincoln Total Community Action Agency. In 1968, McLain became the youngest Executive Director in the State of Louisiana at 24. In 1966, McLain entered the pastoral ministry. His first two pastorates were in his home town of Ruston. In 1968, McLain began pastoring his first fulltime congregation. In 1972, McLain became one of the first African Americans in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana to be sworn in as a member of Lincoln Parish School Board. He was unopposed for a six year term. He resigned to take a parish in Houston, Texas where he served a congregation for seven years. In 1985, McLain moved to Kansas City, Missouri to lead a congregation of more than 2000 parishioners. In 1991, after the death of his father, Dr. C.C. McLain, C.E. McLain was called to the historic Little Union Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. McLain served as moderator of the Liberty Hill Baptist Association with 40 in five Louisiana Parishes. Dr. McLain has served as the immediate past president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Shreveport-Bossier City and vicinity. He has authored five books and been a contributing author to More Power in the Pulpit, published by Westminster John Knox. Dr. McLain has served as Adjunct Professor at Union Seminary, Houston, Texas and American Baptist Seminary, Kansas City, Kansas. He has lectured at a number of colleges, universities and Seminaries. Among them are Grambling State University, Howard University seminary, Washington, D.C., Morehouse School of Religion, Atlanta, Ga. Eastern Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, Pa., Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey, and The College of the Nazarene, Kansas City, Kansas. Dr. McLain established satellite center for Morehouse School of Religion in Grambling, La. (Liberty Hill Baptist Association) and Shreveport, La. On August 19, 1991, Dr. C.E. McLain was called to the pastorate of the Little Union Baptist Church of Shreveport, Louisiana. Having pastored for almost 50 years, this is his 5th pastorate. He has pastored in Texas and Missouri. Dr. McLain received his bachelor’s degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Master of Divinity degree from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas, and Doctorate with Distinction from Drew University’s School of Theology in Madison New, Jersey. Serves as the Executive Director of the One Church One Offender Program of Louisiana, a reentry program for ex-offenders.
