The Main Thing: The relationship between family structure and crime is so strong that controlling for family configuration erases the relationship between race and crime and between poverty and crime. This conclusion shows up time and again in the literature. Fatherlessness in America and most pervasively among young African American Males is devastatingly genocidal to the health and sustainability of the Black Family. I HAD GAVE UP, a poignant true story told in his own vernacular unfortunately is the death chant of millions of people of a darker hue across this nation. Xavier Tobias Thornton's depiction of himself as a toddler watching his father loading his truck with his stuff, but mostly taking away with him Xavier's only chance at transcending the tragedy of being born black, male and poor in America. It is my prayer that through this biographical account of a bright, "uneasily broken" child of God's horrendous ascension toward wholeness, an epiphany of humanity is realized. It is my hope that this book and other literary documentaries will serve as cadence in the march of a time when collectively we faced and conquered a plaque on our nation and reaped the fruits of restored families. "I'D Had Gave Up- Is about this author who spent almost 11 years of his life behind Bars, by the age of 28 years old he'd existed almost half of his life in prison." It is also about the 65 million fatherless incarcerated males like him and the millions to follow, if we don't find the social antidote to end the social travesty of fatherlessness.
