About the Book

DENBY CHRONICLES

Chronicle I: Club Cozumel

Phillip Denby is a U.S. developer who creates a time-share concept around an “all inclusive” club environment on Cozumel Island, Mexico. Denby hires a nationalized U.S. realtor with strong ties to Mexico, lures the regional VP from Club Mex and gets involved with many of the wrong people.

A Mexican contractor, who was once the Spanish Counsel to Cancun, causes him great grief. The Club staff start a call-girl operation, and someone is embezzling his profits.

The leading Mexican opposition party candidate gets wind of the deal Denby cut to get the land for the Club, and rides this Mexican Aguapuerto (Watergate) affair toward victory. Denby’s wife leaves in disgust. She quickly finds herself in the middle of a deal with a crooked banker and a Club officer.

And then. …well, I don’t want to spoil the ending for you.

If you love the Mexican Caribbean, you will feel comfortable in this novel. But you will hate what is happening to lovely little Cozumel.

Chronicle II: Bay of Death

Something deadly is happening in Monterey Bay. Far too many sea lions are washing up, dead, along the shores of the tranquil waters.

Josh Brady, a marine biologist for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, disappears right before his wife’s eyes. When the body of an Army researcher surfaces in a local marina, police divers make a second startling discovery – the grisly remains of Josh Brady. The missing biologist’s unexplained disappearance now becomes a part of a ruthless double murder.

Phillip Denby moves from the Mexican Caribbean to Monterey Bay to undertake an amazing ecological resort, and charms the locals. He decides to use the closure of the Army base at Fort Ord as a golden opportunity. Involving his wife’s brother in their operations pulls Denby right into the Monterey Bay problems.

Fort Ord’s sale and impending shutdown is making waves on the Army base. Capt. Brad Allen is ordered to abort his work on a clandestine military project, code named “Operation Sea Lion.” Discovery of his researcher’s body causes Capt. Allen to realize that the Army is part of the mystery.

About the Author

MIRIAM MAERTENS BENNETT Miriam’s years as a librarian developed her quest for literature. Her literary talents were honed in writing classes, and her writing style was enhanced by her love of travel and her keen eye for details. After editing several novels for colleagues, Miriam agreed to co-author BAY OF DEATH. Miriam painted with words. She set the hues and shades to her co-author’s descriptions. She developed the romance undertones in both of these novels. GERALD ROBERT MENEFEE Gerald has used his life experiences in education, property development, construction, and business consultation in developing his writing style. Gerald brings a technical realism to the detailed plot construction. He takes you inside a protagonist’s mind as the plot is being developed, and you feel, as well as see, the characters’ interactions.
