About the Book

Children’s emotions with friendships can frequently be overlooked. In “Anthony’s Gift,” the main character, Lizzie, is at loose ends because her best friend is moving away. Although she is still very young, she has known her next door neighbor, Anthony, her whole life, and she doesn’t know what to do now that he is moving. Their interactions and Anthony’s generous gifts to Lizzie on the day he leaves, help her appreciate their friendship and see how she can reach out to possible new friends. The text provides humor and comfort to young children as well as an opportunity for parents to explore difficult emotions and family issues with their children. The end of the manuscript also includes an easy, story related snack recipe that children can make on their own or with others.
