About the Book

This book is not for the faint of heart. It is real, raw and very sophisticated. I use the term sophisticated because it was not written for people of all ages or people with an immature personality or perception. During a focus group someone did have a nervous breakdown and changed personalities while reading one of the poems. This caught me off guard making me second guess whether or not to include certain words or descriptions. As an artist and a spoken word artist I felt that in order for this book to be the work of art that it truly is intended to be I had to include these things for direct impact and full effect. There are some softer more cliché pieces as well, this allows you to see the range in variety of writing and adds balance to the book. After all life is not all bad I just really wanted to shine some light on situations that are “taboo” or people are too afraid to talk about. If I had to give this book a rating it would be PG 13. So parents if you feel the need to read it first, by all means please do so. But please be sure to have an open discussion with your children, friends, family whomever. “Phenomenal Me” is meant to be a conversation piece. It is a work of art. Something to talk about and many can relate to. Enjoy as we are all phenomenal beings.
