About the Book
At this very moment, are you, your greatest self?
If your answer is “no” or “not sure,” it is time for a change. This could be one of the greatest journeys you will ever take. But honestly – it will not be the easiest.
If you are completely open to the possibilities you will encounter on this path to greatness, there may be moments of wondering if it is even worth it. However, if you will stay with it . . . stay with yourself – in the end you will not be disappointed. You will be stronger, wiser, and more joyful.
You will be your greatest self.
Bootlicked to Balanced: Healing the Mind, Freeing the Spirit is a book for anyone. It is for anyone who is seeking something More or something Else than what has been known before now. It is for anyone who is seeking truths that are truer for the Self than the Other. It is for anyone who desires to be healed and whole.
Body, mind, spirit: one creative synthesis,
Moving in perfect harmony within, without,
With fellow man and nature all around
To make Heaven where Hell is found.’”
(Howard Thurman, The Inward Journey)
Bootlicked does not aim to be the answer or contain all of the information. Far from it. In fact, in many ways, it only represents the beginning of a journey. The more answers it facilitates, the more questions will form. This work, simply, shares some information, some Christian scripture, and some forms of a discipline that its author has found to be helpful in seeking and finding the More and the Else.
Hopefully, Bootlicked’s readers will take what is contained within and find some piece or pieces that resonate within the Self. Then they can lead others to this book, sharing their response(s) to it. From there all of us can converse and debate and love together. From there all of us can fully enjoy and embrace this beautiful gift of life that God has bestowed upon us.
Framed with intimate accounts of the author’s life, Bootlicked’s lessons become more tangible and concrete. Candi Dugas (author) shares her frustration from her early years of life. Her earliest memories included pervasive feelings of seeming ill-fitted for the world around her. She was either too much of something or not enough of the other. Whatever label the label-makers tried to assign to her never quite described her adequately. Eventually, Candi began to understand that being who she IS, is exactly who she was created to be. Arriving at this understanding occurred only after she was willing to unlearn many lessons learned from her family and her religion.
Bootlicked, then, combines Candi’s personal journey with an introduction to meditation methods to encourage the reader’s intimate relationship with God. Meditation is not a spiritual discipline widely understood and embraced by many western communities of faith. Most understand it to be an exclusive practice of eastern religions. Rather meditation is simply a time to think deeply. That upon which you think is up to each individual. Furthermore, regular times of meditation produce a strong mind that empowers an entire person. Compelling and confident individuals command a presence in this world not easily ignored. When this strength and certainty are rooted in spiritual truths that are time-tested, we create a best world with every decision and action. (Bootlicked presents Christian scripture as one subject matter for meditation.)
Bootlicked to Balanced: Healing the Mind, Freeing the Spirit begins by introducing the reader to the concept of meditation and the need to be still. Stillness creates room for calm, peace, and understanding of one’s true self. Within this introduction, foundational concepts of purpose, eternal perspective, interior healt
