Somewhere, deep in the heart of a far-away desert, the dry, sandy ground gives way to an unknown swampland. There are little to none of the human race who know of its existence, and even fewer who have ventured inside it and returned…although the swamp covers a great deal of land, it remains vastly unexplored; as rumors of forgotten spirits said to circulate the outside of the swamp have unnerved even the bravest of man-kind. Long wisps of mist weave in and out between the roots of the gnarled trees that live in the swamp, covering up pit holes and quick-sand that any unwary traveler could fall into and disappear...At night, the swamp is said to be the first for the darkness too cloak, blotting out any signs of the marsh. Even in the day, the swamp is still gloomy inside, the thick canopy of trees blocking out the sky. But the grounds outside the swamp are just as dangerous; highly venomous snakes and pests hide deep in the sand, waiting for unexpected victims. Unpredictable sand storms can start up in a blink of an eye, and strange animals and human’s prowl around farther from the swamps, hidden away from peering eyes. And a young pup with a dark secret is about to find out just how difficult it is to live an unwanted life such as this… HOLD ON! There are two stories in this book?! About the Author

Delaine Zongo is a lively 6th grader at Kimball Elementary School in Kimball, Minnesota. She lives with her mom, dad, and little brother, Tony. In her free time she likes to read, draw, play with her domestic long-hair cat, Ashes, and listen to the radio or sleep. Her favorite books are the Redwall series and lots of others. Her favorite animal is the red squirrel because of their unique qualities. If she could travel anywhere in the world, it would be to Australia because she wants to learn more about the flying squirrel.
