About the Book

This collection of poetry is the product of Starace’s inspiration, of a space he has created in between the realities of life and the places of wisdom and spirituality. Having found this comfortable region, his mind was cleared of extraneous thoughts, allowing himself to fl ow into a semi-meditative state. As he described it, the right words came as “the swell of inspiration blossomed, and around it like building a beautiful garden, I placed the fl owers and shrubs of sentences and phrases.” In each poem, hopefulness is anticipated and spirituality is expressed. These profound insights are now shared with readers in the hope that the ecstatic feelings expressed within this book will also be conveyed to them. About the Author

Mario Starace, M.A., worked in the mental health field for over 30 years, under the auspices of the N.Y. State Office of Mental Health. In his role of Intensive Case Manager at the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center he served severely mentally ill consumers, and, throughout his career in this field, was also involved with many other mental health organizations within the New York region. Mario knows first hand how stress can impact the whole person, and found through his personal experience, how stress can be relieved when the shift in focus involves creative endeavors, absorbing both mind and spirit. His book, Spaces of Sanctuary, came out of his own discovery of peace and joy in writing poetry. He hopes it will inspire others to find conscious contentment through their own experiences in life, nature and spirit. Mario currently lives in Queens, NY with his wife, Mary Jane. He has a private practice and is writing his next book “Conscious Contentment.”
