About the Book

A family accident, naiveté, and fantasy contribute to Millie Lou Jenkins’s summer romance in 1946. This romance leads to an unexpected pregnancy, and Millie Lou is sent away to New Orleans to deliver and place the baby for adoption. The big surprise is she delivers triplets, three boys. She decides to keep one son while the other two are adopted. In the story, Millie Lou has another devastating relationship before escaping to the bayou. Here she finds genuine love. However, the family struggles for years to eke out a living in their remote homesite. To complete the new phase in her life, her son’s name is changed to Pierre. Throughout the novel, Hamp Taylor, Millie Lou’s first lover and father of the triplets, reveals a manipulating persona who ascends the political hierarchy, finally becoming U.S. Senator from Georgia. The senator unknowingly meets his sons and their children in circumstances that expose his arrogance. A fortuitous meeting in Pierre’s cab brings the triplet brothers together. Once the brothers discover their history, they plot the downfall of the senator in 1994.
