About the Author

educator by profession, has worked in educational circles for over 30 years. He is currently a Curriculum Offi cer in the Ministry of Education. His services to music education have taken him across eight Caribbean nations as CXC (Caribbean Examinations Council) Chief Examiner, conference presenter, syllabus trainer and curriculum leader. Former music critic, he wrote for the Jamaica Gleaner for over 10 years, and has had his poetry exhibited in various newspapers, magazines and online forums such as the International Library of Poetry. Bowen’s interest in writing was sparked early in his life— he wrote his fi rst “real” poem, Recreation (which is included in this anthology), at the age of 13. Married and father of three, Bowen has a penchant for children’s literature. His writing includes songs, not only for his own children, but for the classroom. He embraces a wide range of themes— from deep personal expression based on his own life experiences, to his love of life and nature, the emotions, confl ict and resolution, socio-political refl ections and dramatic escapades. Bowen has further honed his communication skills as a member of Toastmasters International, already completing 30 speeches on his way to achieving the Advanced Communicator Silver designation. As far as photography is concerned, the author more or less restates his literary themes through his images, giving particular attention to child photography, abstract and creative, table-top and still-life, architecture, landscape/seascape and adult portraiture. His preoccupation with subtle shades of texture and lighting takes almost equal prominence to his use of literary nuance.
