About the Book

It is said that “Old soldiers don’t die, they just fade away.” In truth they neither die nor fade away, but rather live eternally both in spirit as well as materially. Their hearts beat now and reside within the very being of all Americans today... From the freedom to express our thoughts and feelings openly, our hopes and dreams freely, and our visions of a better life for ourselves and for those we love. All without fear of unfair judgement or cruel and inhumane persecution. They reside not only within us but all around us, right here in our own great America... They are manifest in the great achievements that could only be born of a truly free society. Made possible through the courageous and selfless sacrifices of those who have fought to defend our god given rights—many of those being our courageous American Armed Forces. Wars continue to bring out the very worst in mankind, and also the very best. It is only through our experience of overcoming such realities and that we individually and collectively come ever closer to the greater good. This story is the account of one very fortunate and courageous air man, Armand DiSchiavi. In spite of seemingly unsurmountable odds, somehow survived many dreadful experiences. In the following pages he shares with us an incredible journey that lead to his capture, legendary Stalag 17B incarceration, terrifying Death March, and ultimately his freedom. In addition he shares with us his personal and insightful revelations that were born of his most extraordinary voyage. It changed his life...forever.
