The Abridged Edersheim

About the Book

The Abridged Edersheim series is an effort to take some of the great classics of the 19th Century and reframe them in both form and language that is readily understandable for today’s reader. Edersheim’s writings can be intimidating in their original form with archaic language, old English spellings, and words that are no longer in use today. This book is an update in all of those areas making these valuable and informative volumes accessible to the average reader. When I described what I had done by abridging the original text my friend commented, “You NIVed it.” That’s a pretty accurate description and I hope it is helpful and will encourage many to take another look at this excellent scholarly work.

About the Author

Mike Steele is a 27 year Army veteran who has served in a variety of capacities ranging from a Drill Sergeant to a Special Forces (Airborne) staff officer. He was medically retired in 2000, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has earned an MA from Webster University, and an MDiv and DMin from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has served as a senior pastor in a number of churches, planted congregations in both civilian and military communities and been a professor at a Christian College. He and his wife Jennifer currently serve as staff ministers at the Chestnut Street Community Church in Roselle, NJ. He is active as a writer, having published The Abridged Edersheim, 3 Volume Series: Sketches of Jewish Social Life, The Temple: Its Ministry and Services, and The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah; and soon to be released works, to include: The Reemergence of the Indigenous Local Church; and the 4 Volume Set: The Gospel of Matthew in Historical Narrative.
