About the Book

This short story, entirely written and illustrated by an 8-year boy, will surely bring a smile to your face as you reminisce of your boyhood or that of your own little boy’s childhood. It is said, “Children’s play is children’s work.” As a mother of two boys, I grew to understand the inherent need for little boys to play good guys bad guys, to be rough and tumble; to be daring. Instinctively, boys are preparing to be our courageous protectors; our heroes. Whether they’re building forts, sailing stormy seas aboard a pretend ship and clashing swords with dangerous pirates, or wrestling a bear; they are practicing being brave.

The Cowboy That Never Got Shot was created out of the imagination of an 8-year old boy. Therefore, doesn’t it stand to reason most any 5 to 10-year old boy or girl will find the journeys of David Starch as exciting as it was in the mind of the boy who created it? Taking place back in the days of the Wild West, the simple plot contains danger, plenty of action, and is sure to set off some jubilant laughter as well! Each short chapter is a separate adventure having both hero and heroine; taking the young reader to a triumphant ending!

Although grammatically imperfect, this could be just the little book to start a certain boy or girl on their way to the fun of reading!
