SYNOPSIS
The Mayses have worked hard to achieve a comfortable middle-class life. So it is
with much despair that they watch their happy home life unravel because of one
child’s attitude toward her sister—all because of the shade of her skin. Following a
downward spiral, the family is then torn further apart by an unimaginable tragedy.
But somehow they manage to pick themselves up and continue with their lives, albeit
without two of their family members. All that they can do is hold out hope that the
one family member who can return home will.
About the Author
A single parent to her daughter, Callie, Norvelle
Traylor Walker lives in Carthage, Texas, where she
has been a Family and Consumer Science teacher
for more than thirty years. She holds a bachelor of
science degree from Prairie View A&M.
The author’s interest in writing stems from a strong
desire to share her knowledge and personal learning
experiences. In addition to Intimidating Shades, she
is the author of the nonfi ction parenting book Single
Parenting with Honor—For the Love of My Child.
Each of these books is intended to inspire readers to rebuild relationships within
their homes and families.
Ms. Traylor Walker’s experiences as an educator in public schools have
provided her with keen insight into children and familial issues. She is
confi dent that the profound messages contained in her works will give
others a different perspective on life, perhaps helping them overcome obstacles
as well.
When asked what makes a writer, Norvelle Walker states that she believes it is a
person who has the ability to connect to an audience of readers in a special way.
Personal experiences and witnessing others’ pain has provided Ms. Norvelle
Wallker with a unique insight that she shares with readers in this book. It is her
belief that even through a work of fi ction, people can start the process of healing
