About the Book

This is a very carefully structured parable of human life. Essentially a metaphysical play, Ada Edna Omo-Osagie has drawn upon several sources. There are echoes of traditional myths and legends and memories of medieval dramatic form like the morality play. It takes its very atmosphere from moonlight tales of many African peoples. The play is ultimately a celebration of human intelligence and man’s central place in the theatre of the world. Man’s intelligence enables him to survive in an essentially hostile environment and equips him with appropriate resources with which to manipulate a confederacy of the elements. Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Death are at one level the abstraction of the dangers inherent in human life and at another level they symbolize the world of which Man is only a part.

About the Author

Ada Edna Omo-Osagie was born in the ancient kingdom of Benin to his Excellency, chief Humphrey Omo-Osagie, the Iyase (prime minister) of Benin. She is the last of sixteen children and had her education in Benin. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and literature at the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State Nigeria. She is presently a teacher of the English language at Infant Jesus Academy, Asaba, Delta State. Her love for children and culture earned her a second place award at the year 2000 children’s cultural festival held in Benin with a live dramatization of a classroom play titled “Africa”. She has written several other plays yet to be published. Apart from playwriting, she loves sports, (football being her favorite). She however believes strongly in self-expression.
