About the Book
Understanding the basic principles of how letters are formed can be a difficult and frustrating task for young learners. With this thought in mind, the author set about writing a book to de-mystify the process. The result is The Mystery of the Land of Letters, a fun, interactive and educational picture book written by Jo-Anne and illustrated by her husband, Adrian. The two main characters, Spot and Freckles, pack their suitcases and blast off into space to visit a world where they hope they will discover the secret to how letters are formed. Their rocket ship follows a course of straight, diagonal and horizontal lines mimicking letter strokes and they arrive safely at their destination, but due to the planets’ windy conditions all they find are lines and curves swirling all around them. The pair take shelter beneath a large tree while the chaos of these lines and cruves swish and swirl around them. Eventually the wind calms down and the lines and curves are no longer in the sky. Where did they go? To our adventurers surprise the shapes have landed neatly on the ground constructing the alphabet. Spot and Freckles are so excited as they realize that letters are simply made up of lines and curves and are not so complicated after all, and that they need to return to earth as quickly as possible to spread the good news.
