About the Author

Anne M. Marreel has a degree in social work from the University of Northern Iowa and has been a social worker and an advocate for children’s rights for the past thirty years. Anne has worked as a crime victim advocate through prosecution-based victim service programs and as a child protective service worker. As an advocate for victim service programs, she worked with hundreds of crime victims, including children, assisting them in court and through the criminal justice system. As a child protective service worker, she investigated child abuse complaints and worked with families and children implementing treatment plans. She saw the need for this book while helping her sister, an elementary school teacher, in her classroom. The book serves as an instructional aide for children and can be used to assist families and children in learning about the court system and helping them become familiar with the journey through both the civil and criminal justice system. Courtroom orientation and tips for testifying are given. Any child going to court may use these tips as they are for both civil family court and criminal court, for both defense and prosecution child witnesses. Anne has been an active community volunteer and has received four community awards for her service. She has worked in both Phoenix, Arizona, and Des Moines, Iowa. Anne is currently employed by the Arizona Attorney General’s office of Victim Services and resides in Tempe, Arizona. Her hobbies include reading, ballet—as she was a ten-year ballet dancer—and professional sports, such as football, basketball, and golf.
