About the Author
Barbara Peer Lutz grew up in a farming community near Wardensville, West Virginia. As a child, she had a pet lamb, a pet chicken, and numerous cats. Her love of poetry and reading began at an early age. She wrote her poem, “My Cat,” while in elementary school and continues to choose poetry as her favorite medium of expression. Barbara‛s love of literature led her to pursue a career in education with a major in English and a minor in Social Studies. She later earned a Master of Education in Reading Education at James Madison University. Her teaching career has encompassed K- adult learners. Currently, she is a facilitator for Professional Development Workshops at The Catholic University in Washington, D.C. where she incorporates children‛s picture books into her courses. She and her husband, Dennis, live in Alexandria, Virginia. Dennis Lutz was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia. He grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. Art has always been part of his life. He earned a B.S. in Art with an endorsement in Education from James Madison University, and a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Virginia Tech. He created what he calls “Land Art” for different communities on sites over the east coast. Dennis taught high school at James Wood Ridge Campus in Frederick County, Virginia. He taught middle school at Francis C. Hammond in Alexandria, Virginia. His experience included teaching art to grades six through twelve for twenty years.
