About the Book

Death is not the end. I believe most people will be cherished and remembered for how they lived their lives and for the impressions they left behind; Deanna, no doubt, had many. She had a profound impact on people—family, friends, even strangers. Her love for her daughter, Elle, was immeasurable; her energy, limitless; her generosity, unstinting; and her work ethic, intense and competitive. But as hard as she tried, as amazing and beautiful as she was, she couldn’t conquer the demons deep within her. I am thankful for all my memories. They make it possible to transform, to some extent, my deep sadness into moments of joy and even laughter. Elle, I hope that with these words you will discover some of the complexities of your mother’s distinctive and remarkable life. This book is for you.

About the Author

A school teacher by trade, Marie Kontos lived the ideal California life, a happy childhood growing up with her three siblings in a large extended Greek family, a graduate of the University of Southern California, marriage to an attorney and three daughters. Now retired, Marie volunteers her time with the Assistance League and Meals on Wheels, enjoys her family and friends and loves to pass on her wisdom to her three precious granddaughters, Elle, Kate and Claire.
