About the Book
Vina was inspired to write when her children gave birth. She wanted to teach her grandchildren at least to count in Tagalog, but how could they learn how to count when her children could not do so themselves? With this book, the challenge, the motivation, and the inspiration became a reality.
About the Author
Vina Martinez-Tiglao worked in a HeadStart-State preschool in the County of Los Angeles, California as a teacher/site supervisor for 13 years. After which she was promoted as Education Training Coordinator / Program Director, a job she held for 16 years before the company relinquished its funding. She also managed to volunteer her time in the Reading is Fundamental Program where she conducted motivational workshops for parents. As a Teacher/ Site Supervisor, Education Training Coordinator /Program Director and RIF volunteer, she learned the value of having numerous variety of materials accessible to the children the classrooms in order to enhance the children’s Social-Emotional Development, Cognitive Development which includes Math, Language & Literacy Development, and Physical & Personal Development. Through her 29 years of experience she saw the importance of reading to young children and the excitement of children owning their own books. With books visible at home, parents became motivated to read to their children and children became book lovers. However, Vina found it challenging when she ordered books; there was a limited number of multicultural books, particularly in English-Tagalog. She wondered if she can write one.
