About the Author

Dr. Antoinette Crawford-Willis acknowledges herself as a child who grew up during the civil rights era. Her story is based on actual experiences by her father who founded the Black Pioneer Firefighters in Memphis, Tennessee from 1955 until his retirement. Antoinette holds a Doctorate in Adult Education, a Master’s in Reading and Literacy and a Master’s Degree in Dance Education. She currently lives and works in a small community outside of Columbus, Mississippi.
