About the Book

While living in Thailand, the Brannon children's imaginative interaction with live toads dressed in costume later inspired Janice to follow in their footsteps . . . dressing up toads, then using engaging photos of them to illustrate Tall Toad Tales. Although Discovering a New World parallels Columbus' discovery of America, it introduces a toad's view of that adventure. Janice hopes that her sincere affection for the toad world will be apparent and that readers will be aware that her toad friends were always treated gently and with respect.

About the Author

Born in California in 1936, raised in Arizona, Utah and Colorado, the author met her husband-to-be in Ethiopia in 1954, where both sets of parents were engaged in projects for the Emperor Haile Selassie. Janice later would receive her degree from Colorado State College of Education. Soon after marrying in Colorado in 1957, far places continued to call to them. In Thailand in 1971 Russell was Chief-of-Party of a University of Kentucky Team at an Agricultural Research Center in the northeast . . . Janice took charge of the Center school where theirs were three of nine American children. Although Kentucky became their home base for 29 years, the Brannons spent 2 years in Uruguay, 8 years in Thailand, and 5 years in Indonesia.
