About the Book

My memoir? For what purpose to document an uneventful life? Memoirs are for famous folk: to gloat on great endeavors, to downplay failures, to rewrite history in their own image. This is not for me — an ordinary fellow who led a most ordinary life. But upon reflection I slowly changed my mind. I can’t recount the hours of regret that I felt regarding the lack of knowledge I possessed about my unknown ancestors. They left nothing to future generations about themselves. Only by questionable word of mouth have I been able to sketch the barest skeleton of their lives. And this dealt with the mere physical aspects of their being. How thrilled I would be to have a journal of their thoughts, their view of the times in which they lived, their philosophy of life, a mirror into their psyche.
