About the Book

Set against the backdrop of the waning Vijayanagar Kingdom in the sixteenth century, “The Temple Builder” is the story of King Sevvappa Nayaka’s ambitious undertaking to build the monolithic Nandi sculpture in the ancient temple of Tanjore, India. His heroic deeds as a warrior earned him the Kingdom of Tanjore. He brought to life his vision of a companion Nandi for the grand Shiva Lingam at the Tanjore Big Temple. The Tanjore temple with its exquisite Nandi endures as a world heritage site today.

About the Author

Uma Srinivasan was born in the temple town of Chidambaram, India. A computer scientist by profession, she has lived and worked in several countries. Uma’s family is spread all over the world. She currently lives in Sydney, Australia.

Translating her mother’s Tamil novel has allowed Uma to enter the world of historical fiction.
