Zack found out Samara was back in town a week later and decided to pay her a visit to find out where they stood. He wanted to apologize and hoped she'd forgive him and things could go back to how they'd been before.
But when Samara opened the door he realised things could never go back to how they'd been.
`You're pregnant?!'
She explained everything.
He couldn't believe it.
He was furious. His ex was carrying his mortal enemy's child!
He left town in a confused rage on his bike and no one heard from him for over a month.
No one heard from Leo ever again.
When he finally returned to town he decided to go back to Samara's and do what he'd originally set out to do and that was to apologize.
When he was there he found out she wasn't very well and out of the kindness of his heart made it his duty to help her out wherever he could.
He helped her with baby things and the doctors and as he spent his time helping her he began to see that this baby didn't change the fact that he was in love with her.
So finally one day he decided to bite the bullet and confess to her that his feelings were still in fact there. Maybe, just maybe, they could get back together. He didn't care that he'd have to help take care of this child. It was worth it.
But when he opened the door to her house he found her lifeless in a pool of blood on the floor. In a panic he fell to his knees and checked her for a pulse. There was one there but it was faint. `Samara?' but she didn't respond. He swept her up and rushed her to the hospital.
He'd never felt pain like it as he waited in the hall. The doctors had all rushed into the emergency room with her. He paced back and forth, unable to sit still. How can a minute seem like an hour? He wondered as he kept on staring at the clock. He'd been there for almost an hour yet it felt as though he'd been away from her for an entire year.
Just then a doctor came out. `There's no easy way to say this…' Zack's heart sank, `Oh no.' nothing good ever came out of those words.
`It doesn't look like we can save either of them.'
Zack shook his head, `No! You have to.' They just had to save her. No offence to the baby but since it wasn't his he wasn't really thinking about that right now. `I have to tell her I love her.' He explained.
The doctor looked at him, he could feel his pain.
`I'm sorry. But you must've known this would happen what with her condition and all.'
Samara had been diagnosed with a rare medical condition and had been strongly advised against having children because the doctors didn't think her body would be able to last through the pregnancy.
`Yes I did. That's why I didn't knock her up!' Zack snapped back.
The doctor blushed, `Oh…' he hadn't realised this wasn't his baby.
Just then a red light started to flash above the door to Samara's room.
They both stared over and a siren began to sound.
The doctor disappeared so quickly Zack didn't even have time to ask what was going on.
He watched in horror as about twelve different people each with their own different kind of machinery rushed into the room. He could hear panicked, raised voices, yelling out commands and worries.
Then in an instant everything went quiet.
Zack could've sworn his heart had stopped beating as the deadly silence became overwhelming.
The people and machines started to flood back out of the room.
He couldn't move. He couldn't speak. But he wanted to know.
Everyone looked as though they were walking in slow motion and he couldn't hear a thing.
His ability to hear returned just as he watched the doctor's lips begin to move in front of him. The baby hadn't made it!
What about Samara? He realised he hadn't been able to say it aloud.
`What about Samara?' this time the words had actually managed to escape.
But then there was nothing. Once again his ability to hear vanished and as he watched the doctor's lips moving everything else around them began to vanish. He could feel himself pleading for an answer but he couldn't hear his own cries. He couldn't help but wonder if the doctor was even able to hear them as everything slowly faded into darkness. Soon all that was left was the flashing red light and the doctor's mouth.
With his last strength he tried to lip read what he was saying but he couldn't think straight. His head was too much in a panic. Then everything went black and there was nothing and he had this awful feeling that Samara had gone into the darkness forever!
