When they reached the pony club, the girls stayed in the truck, because they didn’t want to get wetter than they already were. Dad went to talk to Mr Robertson in his office. They decided it would be best if Meg stayed at the pony club for the night, in the stable, where she would be sheltered from the stormy weather. They were sure she would be fine, with the other horses and ponies to keep her company. When Dad came back in the truck and told the girls that Meg would stay here at the pony club overnight, Emma didn’t like the idea, and she was worried about Meg. But after Dad had explained why it was the best thing to do in this situation, Emma felt better about it, and she agreed. Then suddenly she joked, “Hey, it’s like Meg is going to have a sleep-over.” They all laughed. Dad was able to drive the truck over to the stable and park outside the door, so Emma could see Meg before they went home, and try to explain to her that she would be staying there overnight, and that she would come home after school tomorrow. Emma couldn’t see Meg inside the stable though. She counted all the horses and ponies to make sure. They were all there except Meg! Emma yelled out, as she came running back to the truck, “Meg’s not there! Where is she?” “What!” said Dad, looking surprised and concerned. He got out of the truck to go and have a look for himself. “You’re right! Let’s drive back to the office and ask Mr Robertson.” “What!” exclaimed Mr Robertson. “She was in the stable with all the others when I went to check earlier. I shut the stable door because of the bad weather.” “The door was open when I went there to see her,” Emma replied. “What!” exclaimed Mr Robertson again, “Oh no!” He couldn’t believe it. He looked puzzled. How could the stable door have become open, he wondered. They all drove back to the stable…

About the Book
This book tells a story about a young girl and her pet pony, their special relationship, their daily life, and their adventure. It also features the girl’s relationship with her parents and with her best friend, as well as the pony’s relationship with other animals, and the pony’s own dramatic adventure. The story is imaginative, blending together elements of fantasy, reality, fun and adventure, hardship and problems, drama and humour. It is written mostly to entertain, and stimulate a child’s imagination and sense of fun and adventure, while at the same time make them think about practical realities in life. It is hoped that the reader will, in some way, be able to relate to some things in this book. It is aimed to appeal mainly to young girls, and their parents. (Some details in this story have been influenced by the author’s own life experiences).
About the Author
Ikaika Hawke is a new author on the scene, with a unique brand of storytelling that could be described as “realistic fantasy”. His ability to think and feel like a child forms the basis of his story writing, and comes from his empathy with children and his widespread dealings with children throughout his life.
