About the Book

The author’s international travels started in Brooklyn Navy Yard, sailing to Italy, then flying to Bulgaria, where his father served with the Allied Control Mission. After the Russians forced British and American contingents to leave, he lived in Rome, attended grade school in Japan and high school in the Himalayas of northern India, with winter breaks in East Bengal. By age twelve, he had circumnavigated the globe by land and sea through Southeast Asia and the Middle East. More than a travelogue, his autobiography bears witness to world events. After military service in Vietnam, he earned a doctorate in international relations, completing his dissertation in Germany. He served as a CIA case officer in clandestine services. The author is a Fellow of The Explorers Club, the Royal Geographical Society and member of the Circumnavigators Club. Married for sixty years, he and his wife currently reside in New York.
