The Magpie and Mr Dory

About the Book

This rhyming story follows Mr Dory an elderly gentleman as he enjoys an afternoon walk in a quiet area, when he is suddenly swooped upon by a magpie. Poor Mr Dory! Why is this magpie chasing him and how will he safely continue his walk? Sprinkled with interesting facts, this book is an exciting way for young children to learn about Australian magpies and better understand the natural world of birds.

About the Author

Irena Hardi was born in 1968 in Croatia. In 1969 her family immigrated by ship to Australia for a better lifestyle and to be closer to other family members. Irena’s love of reading, writing and drawing was realised at an early age, continuing into high school through essay writing, school debates and drama. Before leaving high school Irena’s English teacher encouraged her to seriously pursue a career in creative writing. As an adult, Irena attended the University of Wollongong graduating with a teaching degree in Primary School Education in 2008. Teaching gave Irena the opportunity to be surrounded by inquisitive children and reawakened her desire to write. Inspired by children and Australian birds, Irena is pleased to present her first book “The Magpie and Mr Dory.
