Through her art and verse Judith Gayle Sherrouse reveals to us the troubled soul of a neglected child and her restless, life long search for inner peace. As a child in a small town in east Texas she learned at home what love and kindness were not. From a young man, each seventeen, she found the comfort of a friend who understood her anguish. After thirty-four years with Carl and four grown daughters Judith still searches for a mother’s love, a father’s protection, and justice. She is still learning what love, kindness, and forgiveness are. Those who can empathize with her will understand the poems of “Mortification Stew” more readily.
