About the Author
Florence Elsbeth Lietha was born on the family homesteaded farm in Clear Lake, Minnesota on July 7, 1912 to Swiss and Swedish immigrants John and Olga Lietha. John emigrated from Switzerland at the age of fourteen with his parents Martin and Agnes Lietha on July 4, 1876. They settled in Haven Township on the Elk River and Martin worked as a harness maker, raising horses and outfitting westward settlers and servicing in-bound wagon trains from the Dakotas. John did much of the work on the farm. Florence was the third daughter of nine children: Agnes, John, Nellie, Louis, Arthur, Florence, Frances, Carl (Daniel) and Harold. The following nineteen journals are a lifelong collection of her writings touching on her rural farm upbringing and big city life experiences in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
