About the Book

Maggie is a young girl living in a small country town. She loves to play, and she loves adventure. But unlike most young girls, Maggie has a grandfather who flies airplanes across the country and around the world. Maggie’s favorite place is the country airport where she watches people come and go in their small colorful airplanes. She is fascinated by this and wonders if, like her grandfather, she might learn to fly too. Maggie’s Big Surprise tells us a story of a young girl who realizes that she too can make her dreams come true and surprise her favorite grandfather with a truly unusual gift.

About the Author

It seems only natural that Peggy La Vake would write a story about a young girl who wants to learn to fly. Peggy herself grew up in an aviation family. Her father was a captain for a major airline, and yet it never occurred to her that flying was something a woman could do. Thus, Maggie’s adoration for her grandfather and her desire to learn to fly as well. Peggy learned to fly at a later stage in her life. She holds a commercial flight instructor’s and multiengine rating in land aircraft and a rating in single-engine seaplanes. She is also a professional musician, a professional health care worker, an avid Tai Chi player, and a self-proclaimed folk artist
