About the Author

Born in Europe at the start of WW2, and when the bombings became a bit much in the large cities, we moved…we were lucky to have my grandparent having a farm , and passed the rest of the war with food on the table. My schooling was in Italian and in 1949 moved to Italy and was there ‘til 1952 when we came to Canada, after an “exciting trip” on a ship for 14 days in mid February…on the Atlantic, imagine 650 + people …..landing in Halifax but awaiting us was another trip, by train, to almost the middle of Canada…present day Thunder Bay ....learning English, going to school and eventually getting a B.A. in English and History from Lakehead University… One of my professors said “to write poetry, write a paragraph and then take out all the ifs, buts, and ands . What you have is a poem, free verse, but a poem . I hope mine are a good example of his instructions….in English and Italian. Being multilingual has helped me to take the best of both cultures but still remain an individual me. Having come through a war also helped shape some of my philosophy, to try and live each day, for at times tomorrow has other surprises for us …my mother dying when I was 24 and my wife, Tina, of the poem dying at the age of 36 . Living in NW Ontario helped shape me in learning to love travelling long distance and appreciating the beauty of nature but also to respect it, for we never can control it but learn to live with it. For those who never lived in NW Ontario, or north of Toronto, or other large cities, to get anywhere from T Bay …6-7 hours south…Minneapolis, west 7 hours Winnipeg. East along the north shore of L Superior, 7 hours to the Soo (Sault Ste. Marie )
