About the Book

The purpose of this book is to chronicle my life's journey from birth to achieving my goal to be a registered nurse. People, in general, take different pathways to fulfill their professional dreams. My pathway took long and winding roads, hills and valleys. My intention is to inspire, motivate and encourage people across the spectrum, that they should pursue their dreams and never give up. In-so-doing, there might be many obstacles and struggles along the way, but with strength and determination, and help from the community of people around you, you goal can be achieved.

"A powerful story. In this book, Ms Brown vividly details her journey from the time she was a student nurse to the time she became a registered nurse and beyond. Her story is very interesting, engaging and compelling.
In some areas of her story, as can be expected , the reader may find the information technical. However, Ms Brown presents it in a way, that even those of us who are unfamiliar with the field of nursing, not only easily understand the material but also get a great insight into what the nursing profession entails. It is also notable, that her descriptions, especially those detailing her work with her patients, Ms Brown 'opens up"" and allows the reader to see the inner warmth and compassions she feels. Through her eyes, the reader sees the human side of the nursing profession.
I totally enjoyed Ms Brown's story and consider it a must -read. Her story is deeply moving. She was able to take a serious topic, provide the reader with detailed information yet make it quite interesting. Her adept and appropriate infusion of humor, at times, gives a lighter side to a serious topic. In this story, Ms Brown demonstrates, to the reader, that despite some struggles in the early part of her career, hard work and dedication can make things possible."

"After reading My Journey On Becoming A nurse---------first I would like to say ""WOW"" because she has such an unbelievable memory. She""s remembering a lll the events and what happened around her since childhood, and I admire that she had done such philanthropical job with compassion. She took care of her patients as her own family or relatives; not an ordinary job to earn money but as a humanitarian. Over the years, as an emigrant, even though she faced diverse cultural difficulties she successfully had done her job for most of her entire life, and her autobiographical story of her life -- she wrote is full of reality which most of ordinary people could go through. And she fulfill---what she had longed for --becoming a nurse which was not just for making living but as public servant to people suffering tremendous illnesses and depression. "Miss Brown, initially a mentor, colleague and now a very good friend has never been short on self determination in my observation. My personal experience only spans a short period covered in her book, "" My Journey On Becoming A Nurse: Contribution To The Nursing Profession. But elements of that self determination are present and pervasive throughout the book.

Ms. Brown's autobiographical account accurately reflects it's billing. It is an account of a visionary and persistently determined young woman from who fulfills a dream of becoming a nurse, but then moves beyond that goal to become one of the highest ranking, and most accomplished nurses in the United States.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Ms. Brown at her post in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. As with most of the colleagues and surgical residents working with her, we all were in awe of her knowledge of the things myself, as anesthesiology resident at time, and others had no clue about. Her autobiography makes it clear where this highly lauded trait comes from. It describes many times where she has shown a desire to know more. teach and participate in leadership. Her vision of and enduring fight for equability and fairness are certainly the result of her intimate knowledge of her craft.

Throughout our lives we have all taken inspiration from people, places and events for various endeavors.I have certainly taken inspiration from people, my parents for example, especially during the formative years of my career. I would have enjoyed adding Ms. Brown's story of hard work, sacrifice and dedication to her career to the list of inspiration I had while developing my career. "
