July 2009: Arab nations, who control eighty percent of all known oil reserves on earth, announce they will no longer sell petroleum to America or Great Britain, their recent wartime foes. On opposite sides of the world, two women work to thwart the Arab’s plots and acts of terrorism. Rachel, an Israeli girl, whose family is killed by al Qaeda terrorists, becomes a spy in Mossad. Using an assumed name, Amani, she gathers secrets concerning the impending oil embargo. Lori, an American girl and advocate of alternate power, grows from a precocious child to a leading authority on energy. She develops a fuel cell using renewable fuel, which gets 80 to 90 miles per gallon. When the Arab oil embargo is finally invoked, gasoline powered vehicles, cars, trucks, busses, trains and planes, both civilian and military, are all ‘Running on Empty.’*

The author spent his professional career in research on petroleum and energy. He has 23 patents in these fields, a PhD in Chemistry and served as Senior Research Chemist at Chevron’s La Habra Oilfield Laboratories. Later, he pioneered work on biofuels and built the world’s first battery using living micro-organisms as its energy source.
