About the Book

George Sargent seemed destined for a life of privilege until her father, a prominent steel industrialist, committed George’s mother to an asylum and exiled his daughters to boarding school. Rejecting despair, George developed a personal philosophy of self-reliance and public service that transformed her from sheltered socialite to dynamic activist and philanthropist. Over the last century she has served as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol, founded a theater troop, and raised millions of dollars for her church, education, and wildlife preservation. To this day she serves as an inspiration to everyone she meets.
