About the Book
Colonel Colaine and Father Damien are sympathetic, multi-faceted men caught up in the civil war in Guatemala. Their friends and families are the victims, as well as they.
Early on, Father Damien is considered an embarrassment to the pompous churchman in Washington, D. C., and the CIA. And so, a conspiracy was formed, the Pilate and Herod thing, Church and State, Damien was expendable. Colonel Colaine does not fare very well either with the CIA so he joined his friend, Damien, at the sacrificial altar,
Well, almost.
They rise to the occasion to save part of the Mayan people , establishing refugee camps in Mexico. Finally, after many years, the people are able to return to their homeland.
This novel depicts an episode of the Guatemalan civil war that was grimly typical of the CIA’s covert actions. The shame of it all was the good guys in the CIA establishment were put at a disadvantage because of the lack of responsible stewardship and the oath to secret actions, at all costs....much like the activities in the Church.
