About the Book

During December, 2025, the government’s first federally sponsored euthanasia project brings Levi, a young caseworker, together with three volunteers who arrive at Hollowdale for phase 1 of the project. But Levi battles an inner turmoil. Had he a choice when he accepted this position? Does he question the ethics of euthanasia? He is accused of emotional over-involvement with his three volunteers, Heather, Bill, and Luther, who surprise him by being bright, savvy, spirited people with significant lives, contradicting their choice to die. At odds with administration, friends, and his wife, he feels pressed to rethink his future.

About the Author

In 1996, Barbara Burwell retired from her thirty year career as administrator and consultant in the fields of mental health and drug and alcohol. She lives in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, allocating her time to many activities in addition to her writing and her family, including five children (one deceased), nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.. Skychild is her second novel to be published; Matters of Choice, released earlier in 2002, was her first. “There are more coming,” she happily proclaims, citing four other novels being finalized. She brings a lifetime of experiences to her writing, and derives considerable joy from it.
