About the Book

This is a story of people in the war against the Romans. There are no kings, no generals, no big shots in the story - just illiterate ordinary people - blacksmiths, tanners, ordinary working folks caught up in an affair that is bigger than they are. The story is against a backdrop of history, with other actors in it who come in contact with the leading protagonists.

About the Author

I was born in New York City, but I was raised on a farm in Central New Jersey. My career includes a degree in mechanical engineering, and various jobs in machine shops. But I have also done some of the world’s dirty work such as lugging beef -which is strictly a brawny job. I must say that of all the people I have met in my many varied jobs, I have enjoyed and learned the most from the ordinary people, on the most mundane jobs, not from the intellectuals and college graduates, whom I also met in large numbers. But throughout my career as an engineer, I kept one foot on the land. Throughout my long years as a mechanical engineer, I kept the ownership of land, and some animals, and a huge garden. My wife and I built two houses on two different farms we owned. So if people ask me what I have been in my working years, I prefer to say, I have been a farmer, not an engineer, because that is where my heart has always been. But farming is a non-money producing enterprise, so engineering provided the necessary funds for survival.
